Les Matthews

 

 

Les Matthews was a world-renowned west-country based artist who has been exhibited both in the UK and internationally during a professional career that spanned six decades.

His highly sought after paintings are prominently featured in many private and public collections throughout the world including City Museums, National Trust properties, Universities and The Museum of Modern Art in Canberra Australia.

 

Les was diagnosed with Terminal Prostate Cancer in 2019, managing to battle on for several years before sadly passing away in January 2023.

 

Not only was Les an extremely talented painter but he also spent many years teaching art to the young and old alike. Whether it was during his years at Churchill and other secondary schools, or at one of his Art Classes, he got immense pleasure out of helping people develop their talents.

 

Les was much loved by his family & friends and leaves many fond memories behind.
